A STUDY OF THE FIRST EPISTLE OF ST. JOHN - What
does it mean for our daily lives to live in the love of God? How
do we fight and denounce lies in a world of full of "shades of gray" and
love those who are lost or mislead? What are the characteristics of the
Antichrist for which we need to be on guard? How can someone who
was once called "A Son of Thunder" become known as the "The Apostle of
Love" and what example is there for us in his life? We will
explore all of these questions and much more as we study what God told
through this personal letter from the "Disciple whom Jesus Loved".
DANIEL - Do you ever feel
like you are living in Babylon?
Come join us for a study of Daniel where we will study how Gods people
maintain their faith and walk with the Lord in the midst of a pagan
culture. We will tackle the prophecies and see how this fascinating book
points us to Jesus, the coming Messiah, in both his first and second ad
vent. Led by Bill Grose, this study begins at 9:30am Sunday, June 6.
Are you or someone you know interested in joining the
Lutheran Church Missouri Synod? Pastor Schmitt will conduct an adult
Confirmation class which will meet on Sun day mornings from 9:30—10:15
beginning Sunday, June 20 in the Multi purpose Room. This Lutheran
instruction class will conclude on July 25 with the New Member Welcome
Service. This is also a good refresher course for current LCMS members.
The
Sunday School children were able to purchase their own playground by
saving 1/3 of their offering money. However, they did not have enough
money to purchase the mulch that is needed to keep them safe. In the
narthex attached to the slide, there are 100 envelopes numbered 1-100.
Please consider taking an envelope and placing at least that dollar
amount into the envelope. You can either place the envelope in the
offering plate or drop it in the black mailbox located to the left of
the church office door.
Work Day for Picnic Area
One of the Boy Scouts from Troop 412 is doing an Eagle
Scout Project for the church on Saturday, June 19. The project will
consist of preparing and making of a picnic area on the west side of the
church and constructing picnic tables for it. He would appreciate
anybody who is willing to give up their time to help. This will begin at
9 AM on June 19, 2010. A sign up sheet will be available to see who will
be coming. Refreshments and lunch will be provided. If you have any
questions please contact the church office.
Summer Sunday
School Teachers Needed
Volunteers are needed to teach for Summer Sunday School. Teach one week,
teach one month, teach all summer, it is up to you. Classes are PK2-K &
1st-4th Grades. Contact Andrea to see how you can help (493-1744).
125th Anniversary Cookbook
The time has come! Enclosed is the Recipe Collection
Sheet for your delicious recipes. Please read the instructions on the
back of the form carefully. Any family member or former member of Zion
may contribute; it would be great if every Zion family is represented in
the cookbook. A decorated box will be in the narthex June 6 to receive
your recipes, or you may mail them to the church. Extra copies of the
Recipe Collection Sheet will be stacked by the box. The deadline for
recipes to be in is JUNE 20.
This cookbook is being done to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the
church in 2011. The proceeds will be used for congregational projects.
Thank you so much for participating!
People of all ages are invited to join us for family
fun on Sunday, April 25 from 4-6 PM. We have rented the
Saddlebrook Community Center and have planned activities for all ages.
The Saddlebrook Community Center is just a couple blocks southwest of
the church.
This year's Marty Party will be held Sunday, Nov 1 at
3:30 PM at the Christensen Farm. We will do fun activities such as
hayrack rides, crafts, roasting marshmallows and hotdogs around a
bonfire, hot apple cider and hot chocolate, and fun games for all the
family. Maybe even Martin Luther will join us for a story!
Please bring seating for your family and dress to be outside. To
help us plan, please sign up your family on the sign up board, found
downstairs in the church.
Please
join approximately 500 fellow LCMS Lutherans raking the yards of about
100 homes where owners are no longer able to rake their own yards.
Meet at St. Mark's, 90th and Blondo, on Sunday, November 8 at 1:00 PM.
Bring a yard rake. "Rake It Out" is the initial metro-wide event
of Walking Together Lutheran Ministries, a shared ministry of outreach
and human care among the LCMS congregations of Omaha. For more
information or to sign up to participate, contact Pastor Steve Bartelt
